! Remembering for not Repeating !
Why I am against the war of Iraq?
Ciudad Real (Spain), March-2003
- Because the only legitimate war is in self-defense, that is to say,
if a previous attack exists (this was the situation in 1991 with the invasion
of Kuwait, in Bosnia or in Kosovo).
- Because the current policy of the USA's government (with the servile
support of the Spain's government) have "broken in a lot of pieces"
some basic moral values of the occidental culture:
- The presumption of innocence (it is pending to demonstrate the
linking between the Irak's government and Al Qaeda).
- The "state based on law" (USA claims
the power of deciding who a danger is and who not, who deserves to be
punished and who not). The last proposals of USA (supported by United
Kingdom and Spain) are an ultimatum to the UN (United Nations): or war
with your approval or war without your approval.
- The justice (the discrimination in the treatment:
some dictators can continue because they are "our prostitute's
son" but others are a danger for the humanity and we should
eliminate them although the cost is thousands of innocent deads).
- Because the hypocrisy of the USA's government (or of
any other one) offends me deeply. The main bases of the Islamic
fundamentalist terrorism are in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia but USA supports
both Governments. The military dictatorial government of the first one was
imposed by means of a coup d'etat. The second is the main economic source of
this type of terrorism and the great majority of terrorists implicated in
the 11-September attacks are from this country. These statements are facts
(non opinions) accepted by the governments of USA, UK and Spain, but ... it
doesn't interest.
- Because doesn't exist proportionality between the causes and the
means: it is not licit that to expel a tyrant a whole country is attacked
and and take place the suffering of millions of people.
- Because the middle and long time Europe's strategy is very harmed.
The war is against the European interest in a Middle East more open and less
Islamic. Surprisingly Iraq is the less Islamic Arab country. The Government
is a dictatorship, like in all the Arab countries, but it is lay. USA don't
like a strong and united Europe that makes from counterbalance to its power.
- Because the Spanish foreign policy of the last 25 democratic years is
destroyed. Our valuable middleman rol between three spaces (Europe,
Latin America and Arab countries) is changed to the "fan of the
hoodlum's of the school".
- Because Spain doesn't have anything to thank to USA, on the
contrary, let us remember some historical facts:
- Spain supported to USA during its independence war.
- Shamelessly USA invented a false Spanish attack (sinking of the
battleship Maine, http://64.21.33.164/CNews/y98/feb98/14o4.htm) in order
to justify the attack to Spain in 1898. Of this way USA could get
Cuba and Philippines, two countries that was interesting for USA. ! What
great similarity with the current situation!, the justification of the
war was the liberation of the oppressed Cuban people and, especially of
the black persons. Today we know all (especially the Cubans) how they
were liberated.
- USA didn't make anything in order to force the democratization of
Spain during Franco's dictatorship. The other way around, USA
supported to the dictator military and politically. Franco paid these
services giving strategic military bases (acting against the nationalist
principles that supposedly inspired him regime).
- Spain didn't receive helps of the Marshall plan for the
economic reconstruction of Europe after the II world war.
- Because oil is the true cause of the interest to invade Iraq. The
own USA's government recognizes that Iraq has petroleum reserves for more
than 121 years while USA has only it for less than 7 years (to the current
rhythm of production and consumption, see data of the official agency "Energy
Information Administration"; http://www.eia.doe.gov/emeu/international/petroleu.html).

- Because I am insulted (called silly) when I listen to Bush or Aznar
justify the war in order to democratize Iraq and to liberate the Iraq
people's of the tyrant Sadan. Aznar said in the Spanish Congress that he
committed to reconstruct Iraq. ! Valiant hypocrisy !, ! that coarse insult
to the intelligence !. The culprits of the destruction justify it because
then they will reconstruct.
- Because the democracy concept that I have assumed
doesn't only consist on voting every 4 years. It also includes that my
government is forced to represent me keeping in mind the opinion of the
Spanish people. I believed that the time of "for the people but without
the people" was history but I was mistaken. I don't accept the
following argument: I act against the majority opinion of my people (clearly
manifested in this crisis: more than 85% of Spanish people are against the
war of Iraq) but I act of this way because I want the well of my people.
This statement and to say that the people is silly is the same thing. And I
affirm with rotundity that I and a lot of people that I know personally ARE
NOT SILLIES.
- Because the option that Aznar proposes us (I suppose that because it was
dictated to him by Bush in their ranch-meeting at Texas) is "humiliating"
for the Spaniards, for the Europeans and for all those that are not USA
(the 94% of the humanity). Their option means that USA are entitled to act
against anyone when they estimate it opportune. Which the origin of this
right is?. Bush say that God (! that coincidence with the fundamentalists
that he says to combat!). But we all know that it is, simply, the right of
the force.
- And because I drop the face of shame when someone ask me because
Occident acts (we act) so different in the case Palestine-Israel and in the
case of Iraq.
This text was written in March-2003, one year before the massacre of the 11-March in Madrid.
I was born in Vallecas (Madrid) in 1960. Some bombs exploded in the train station of this neighborhood.
