Software is becoming more and more important every day. This relevance is reflected not only in the massive use of software systems in society but also in the importance which software systems play as core element to support business development and business processes.
But we must to be aware that software consumes energy and resources. In the area of Information Technology (IT), for quite some time, there have been efforts related to Green IT.
However, from the software point of view, research and practice are just starting. In relation to research, despite there is no too much work available about green software it is becoming a strong line of research. Moreover, environmental aspects are being introduced into the industry as part of its business processes.
This means that software and environmental aspects are a challenge that we must face as community.
Green practices should become part of the software development, as well as the rest of Software engineering activities by taking into consideration environmental aspects. It is of prime importance to define greener processes to produce greener software products or services. The Ginseng workshop aims at discussing the importance of incorporating green aspects as part of the software engineering practices.
We want to promote all aspects related to green software engineering by giving researchers the opportunity of sharing and discussing their work and ideas. Moreover, we plan to identify, during the workshop, possible future research directions.
Topics include, but are not limited to, the list below. We explicitly solicit position papers, short papers or posters related to highlighted topics. Theoretical proposals, emergent ideas not yet validated, empirical studies, case studies or implementation solutions are welcome, too.
Important dates, to be added in your agenda, are:
