  • Global software development governance: Challenges and solutions

    28th April 2020

Our colleagues Antonio Manjavacas, Aurora Vizcaíno, Francisco Ruiz and Mario Piattini have published the article Global software development governance: Challenges and solutions in the magazine Journal of Software: Evolution and Process.

Global software development (GSD) has become a growing model of software development in recent years. While much research has been done on GSD management, research on GSD governance is currently scarce and presents multiple challenges that need to be addressed.

This paper has undertaken a systematic mapping study to identify the main issues addressed in the GSE governance literature and to identify particular research gaps that remain in this area. This allowed us to discover new challenges that need to be addressed, along with possible solutions to them.

The results reveal a lack of research in key areas such as tools, culture, people and information, all of which offers a great opportunity for future approaches, while also highlighting new opportunities in research on the governance of GEs.
