  • Study of the depopulation process in the Province of Ciudad Real

    06th March 2019

Our colleague Professor Francisco Ruiz and Professor Angel Raúl Ruiz, from the Department of Geography of the UCLM, have presented the project 'study of the depopulation process in the Province of Ciudad Real' to several people. provincial political leaders: president of the deputation, senator, mayors, provincial deputies and presidents of regional and rural development associations. In this project are being used 'business intelligence' techniques, such as analytics and data mining, to process about 20 million data on the population and social and economic characteristics of each of the 102 municipalities of the province.

In a first stage, which will conclude within a month, a catalogue of variables is being created (more than 170) that precisely show the situation and behaviour of each municipality.

A written report is also being prepared which reviews the situation of municipalities classified into 7 groups according to their population behaviour over the last 20 years. At a later stage, the aim is to develop a scorecard, in the form of an IT tool, enabling political and social decision-makers to consult easily the data of interest at any given time in order to facilitate the collection of decisions about this very important problem that we have in the province of Ciudad Real and a large part of Spain.
