Members of the Alarcos group attended the third HELENA Workshop "Hybrid dEveLopmENt Approaches in software systems development". The results of a survey in which 50 countries participated were presented. The results of the survey were related to the types of development methodologies typically used by enterprises in these countries. Félix García presented a study of the differences in software development between Spanish and Costa Rican companies.
Last November, our colleague Ignacio García Rodríguez de Guzmán visited the Federal University of São Carlos to work on the project "An Approach Supported by Tests for Architectural Modernization of Adaptive Systems" (FAPESP, 2016/03104-0), whose principal investigator is Dr. Valter Vieira de Camargo. During this stay, progress was made in the software refactoring lines following the ADM paradigm (Architecture-Driven Modernization). In addition, Ignacio García was invited to give the talk "Software Sustainability: Reality or Chimera? Where, among other concepts, the results of the GINSENG project (TIN2015-70259-C2-1-R) are presented, which allowed the analysis of possible lines of collaboration within the sustainability of the software with researchers from the Computação Department of said university.

Our colleague Marcela Genero Bocco has given a plenary lecture on "Present, Past and Future of Empirical Software Engineering" in the context of CIIISI 18 (IV Congreso Internacional de Ingeniería Informática y Sistemas de Información (CIIISI 2018)), organized by CUJAE, at the Havana Congress Centre, on 27 November 2018. Within the same event he will participate in two panels:
  • 1) "Main strategies of doctoral training"
  • 2) "Challenges and experiences of the collaboration Business-University"
  • Ana Fernández Saéz has defended her PhD Thesis, titled "Studying the Benefits of Using UML on Software Maintenance: an Evidence-Based Approach" This thesis was presented in the co-supervision regime, co-directed by professors Marcela Genero (UCLM) and Michel Chaudron (University of Gothenburg), Sweden.

    According to the study conducted by the ScienceDirect platform, our colleague Mario Piattini is among the top 20 researchers of the world's most active in Software Engineering.

    The Alarcos group presented at the SISTEDES Conference, held in Seville from October 17 to 20, 2018, its article FEETINGS: A Framework for Software Sustainability .
    Javier Mancebo was in charge of presenting the software sustainability framework that the Alarcos group has defined for the measurement and visualization of the software consumption in execution. As a case of using this framework, the result obtained was presented when applied to the environment of the PHR (Personal Health Recodes). This work is part of the doctoral thesis that Javier is doing as a contracted FPI of the GINSENG project (TIN2015-70259-C2-1-R) financed by the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (MINECO) and the European Regional Development Fund ( FEDER), has been carried out in collaboration with the University of Murcia, which also participates in this project (TIN2015-70259-C2-2-R).

    Our colleague Francisco Ruiz participates in the project team "Application of Data Analytics to the Study of Depopulation in the Province of Ciudad Real". It will be a work in collaboration with the Provincial Delegation of Ciudad Real and the Faculty of Letters of the UCLM. It will be responsible for the technical part, focused on the application of techniques and computer tools of analysis to detailed data on population, its distribution in the territory and migrations.

    Our director Mario Piattini presents the conference: "Sostenibilità e qualità del software" en OPEN DAYS DIGITALE AGENDA 2018. QUALITÀ E SICUREZZA DEL SOFTWARE: COMPETENZE, AZIONI, VANTAGGI, in the region of Puglia (Italy).

    Between the 22nd and the 24th of June 2018 it was carried out in the Institute of Information Technologies and Systems of Ciudad Real the first annual meeting of experts in Data Quality, Master Data Management, and Data Governance, organized jointly by the Spanish Quality Association Data and Information (AECDI) , and Excellence Qualité Information (ExQi) . For the event there was the collaboration and presence of different companies in the IT sector fully involved and aware of the importance of the quality of data for the correct performance of the organization, such as Microsoft France , Électricité de France (EDF) , Talend , Schneider Electrics or DQTeam , as well as with experts in Data Quality of the university environment such as the University of Castilla-La Mancha and the French Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers (CNAM) .


    Our colleague Julio Moreno has attended the XXIII European Conference on Pattern Languages ??of Programs (EuroPLoP) Held in Irsee, Germany. The article "A security pattern for key-value NoSQL database authorization" was presented, whose authors are: Julio Moreno , Eduardo B. Fernandez , Eduardo Fernández-Medina and Manuel A. Serrano .

    Our colleague Francisco Ruiz has given a guest talk entitled "Business Architecture, it will be architecture or it will not be", within the Days organized by the Spanish Association of Business Architects, Spanish chapter of the International Association. This talk was held in the auditorium of the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Valencia on Friday June 22.

    Our colleague Manuel Ángel Serrano has attended the IV National Conference on Cybersecurity Research (JNIC) held in San Sebastian, Spain. The article "Marisma-BiDa: Integrated Risk Analysis and Management Environment in Big Data" was presented, whose authors are: Julio Moreno, Luis E. Sánchez, Antonio Santos-Olmo, David G. Rosado, Manuel A. Serrano and Eduardo Fernández-Medina. This article was awarded as the best JNIC 2018 research article.

    Our colleague Javier Mancebo Pavón has attended the 6th International Workshop Green and Sustainable Software (GREENS), which took place within the 40th International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE), held in Gothenburg, Sweden. The article EET: a device to support the measurement of software consumption, whose authors are: Javier Mancebo, Héctor Omar, Felix Garcia, Ma Angeles Moraga, Ignacio García-Rodríguez and Coral Calero.

    On June 22, 2018, our colleague Felix Oscar García Rubio passed the tests to become a Full Professor at the (ESI) Higher School of Informatics of Ciudad Real.

    Members of the group, together with the collaboration of the University of Bari, have published a study that analyzes the effect of the refactoring of business process models on their understanding and maintainability, especially when these models are obtained by reverse engineering from information systems.     Our colleague Coral Calero has been invited to the event INFORMÁTICA 2018, organized by the Ministry of Communications of Cuba, an event that has the objective of showing scientific advances, new technologies and new developments in the sector and that brings together all national sectors related to information technology. This event has different international guests. As one of these invitations, Coral has given a pre-event course on "Software Sustainability" attended by more than 40 participants. On the other hand, within the event itself and within its track on software quality, the inaugural conference entitled "Sustainable Software Development: Current and Future Challenges" was given.

    Our colleague Marcela Genero has been invited by the University of Costa Rica (UCR) and the National University of Costa Rica (UNA) to give two courses, one on the "Past, Present and Future of the Empirical Software Engineering" and another on "Software Engineering Services", between February 26 and March 2. In addition, he has several meetings with research groups for information on future collaborations.

    Our colleagues Jose Antonio Cruz-Lemus and Marcela Genero are co-authors of an article recently published in the journal Empirical Software Engineering, entitled: "Do software models based on the UML aid in source-code comprehensibility? Aggregating evidence from 12 controlled experiments".

    Our colleague Coral Calero has been interviewed within the framework of the project #generociencia that takes place in the Faculty of Journalism of the UCLM, the work has been made known and the place of representation and visibility that women researchers occupy in the UCLM. Professor Calero has been chosen as the only representative of the Engineering and Architecture area and as a University Professor.     Our colleague Ismael Caballero has given a talk at the EOI (School of Industrial Organization) in Madrid, assisting dozens of people in the sector, General Managers, heads of IT departments, human resources, financial and commercial.

    At the awards ceremony of the National Computer Awards, which took place on October 24, 2017 at the headquarters of the BBVA Foundation, Mario Piattini , Director of the Alarcos Group, has received the Aritmel Prize by the Scientific Information Society of Spain (SCIE). It is a prize to recognize that researcher or researcher, under 55 years old, who has made outstanding scientific contributions in the area of computer engineering. The Aritmel Prize is part of the National Computer Awards, granted by the SCIE since 2005 to recognize already established researchers and encourage computer research.

    Our colleague Javier Mancebo Pavón has attended the 15th International Conference on Business Process Management, Business Process Management (BPM) , held in Barcelona (Spain), presenting the article BPMS-Game: Tool for Business Process Gamification, whose authors are Javier Mancebo, Felix Garcia, Mª Angeles Moraga and Oscar Pedreira.

    Bruno Marinho Santos, from the Federal University of São Carlos (Brasil), is conducting a research stay at the Alarcos Research Group from September 1, 2017 until June 30, 2018, working on the development of software modernization techniques.

    Between the 18th and the 21st of July the conference was held in La Laguna (Tenerife) JISBD 2017 "Conference on Software Engineering and Databases" , the main event in Spain for the community of researchers in software engineering and systems information.     The Alarcos Group celebrates 20 years since that day when it began with a small group of people with a dream. Happy anniversary for everyone.


    On June 21, 2017, a follow-up work day of the GINSENG project took place in Murcia ( Green in Software Systems and Software Engineering >) in which members of the Alarcos Group and GIS Group participated ( Software Engineering Group ) of the University of Murcia.
    In the GINSENG project, respect for the environment and sustainability is addressed as a fundamental axis, contributing through methodological, validated and automated proposals so that companies can incorporate sustainability practices into their software systems.

Marcela Genero y el Dr. Eduardo Fernández-Medina. El proyecto tiene una duración de tres años y se realizará en colaboración con los grupos de investigación Lucentia (Universidad de Alicante) y Quivir (Universidad de Sevilla).

    El profesor Francisco Ruiz fue "keynote speaker" en el II Workshop en Investigación en Sistemas y Tecnologías de Información, celebrado en Chillán (Chile). La conferencia, titulada "Ingeniería de modelos. Alineando los sistemas de información con la organización" mostró algunas posibilidades de investigación conjunta entre las disciplinas de Informática y Dirección de Empresas, a las que pertenecían los 50 académicos participantes.

    Se ha publicado el artículo "On the Use of UML Documentation in Software Maintenance: Results from a Survey in Industry" (pp. 291-302) en el congreso "Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems" (MODELS 2015), celebrado en Ottawa (Canadá) en el mes de Octubre de 2015, cuyos autores son Ana M.     El Grupo de Investigación Alarcos ha organizado el 13 de Julio, dentro de la décima edición del Congreso Internacional sobre desarrollo global de software (ICGSE), el workshop GINSENG (Green in Software Engineering). Es la primera vez que este evento se organiza y ha resultado un éxito.

    Se ha presentado el trabajo "profESIonalízate: Mejora de las empleabilidad mediante competencias profesionales" en el marco de las XXI Jornadas sobre la Enseñanza Universitaria (JENUI 2015), entre el 8 y el 10 de julio de 2015 en Andorra la Vella.

    Francisco Ruiz ha organizado una mesa redonda sobre "Desafíos de los Másteres en Ingeniería Informática", que ha contado con la participación de Ernesto Pimentel (Universidad de Málaga), Robert Clarisó (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) y Vicente Pelechano (Universitat Politécnica de Valencia).

    Durante las JENUI 2015, celebradas en Andorra, en representación de SISTEDES (Sociedad de Ingeniería de Software y Tecnologías de Desarrollo de Software), Francisco Ruiz ha realizado la entrega del primer premio SISTEDES al artículo "Casi le dimos la vuelta a la enseñanza del desarrollo del software" de Josep María Marco-Simó, María Jesús Marco-Galindo y Daniel Riera Terrén (UOC).

    Entre los días 10 y 14 de noviembre hemos participado en las Jornadas Chilenas de Computación (JCC 2014), organizadas por la Universidad Católica del Maule, de Talca, Chile.

    Dentro de la "Empirical Software Engineering International Week (ESEIW)" celebrada en Turín (Italia), entre los días 15 y 19 de septiembre, participamos de la reunión de la red ISERN y de la conferencia ESEM 2014.

    Queremos destacar que los Steering Committes de ISERN y ESEM nos aceptaron la organización de la celebración de dichos eventos para el año 2016, cuya General Chair será Marcela Genero.

    Esa es la tercera edición del workshop que aunque en principio se centra en requisitos para sostenibilidad de sistemas software, se ha afianzado como un workshop sobre sostenibilidad.

    En esta edición llama particularmente la atención que dos de los artículos presentados son sobre sostenibilidad social, dimensión poco tratada hasta ahora pero que parece que está empezando con fuerza.

    El profesor Francisco Ruiz ha sido keynote speaker (conferenciante invitado) en el congreso CLEI'2014, el principal evento de ámbito Iberoamericano en el campo de la Informática, celebrado en Montevideo (Uruguay) del 15 al 19 de septiembre de 2014. Su conferencia versó sobre 'Ingeniería de modelos. Aplicación al alineamiento organizacional de los sistemas intensivos en software' (Model Engineering. Application to organizational alignment in software-intesive systems).

    AMCIS es una conferencia totalmente centrada en sistemas de información a bastante alto nivel por lo que no tiene un toque "especialmente informático".

    Dentro de esta conferencia hay un track denominado SIGGreen que es específico de Green y Sostenibilidad en Sistemas de Información del que, en ediciones anteriores, se han publicado trabajos muy interesantes.

    Presentamos en Huelva, una ponencia inaugural sobre la Evolucion de la Ingeniería del Software y el Desarrollo Global de Software, en el II Congreso Internacional de Ingeniería del Software para Grandes Corporaciones.

    Ha sido aceptado para su publicación en la revista Information and Software Technology el artículo titulado:

    En dicho artículo realizamos una revisión sistemática sobre Fiabilidad Software.
