New projects: Ingenious Girls
and Women Engineers
22th March 2024
Colleagues from our group participate in the following projects:
- Clever Girls, Women Engineers, Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), FCT-22-18343, 2023-24 (12 months).
- Women Engineers, Ingenious Women, Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), FCT-23-19398, 2024-2025 (12 months).
Both projects aim primarily to increase the vocations of girls and adolescents in engineering careers. The proposal is part of the activities carried out since 2018 by the
"Ingenious Women" group at the University of Castilla-La Mancha. The activities that have been developed and planned for the future pursue the following three main objectives:
1. Contribute to breaking down the gender stereotypes that are very present in girls when choosing their future profession or university studies. All project activities are designed in a way that can gradually modify gender stereotypes related to the perception that girls are worse in science and technology and that there are professions more suitable for women (health, education) and others more for men (engineering).
2. Humanize engineering by showing its social purpose to make it attractive to girls and adolescents. To make known the diversity of its professional opportunities, and to show it as a multidisciplinary profession that contributes to improving our planet, our health, our lives. To raise awareness in society about the importance of Engineering in general and of the woman engineer in particular.
3. Make visible the work of women engineers, technologists, or inventors throughout history to create female role models that allow girls to think that they can also do it.
