  • The Alarcos group celebrates the tenth edition of its annual Hackathon at the Escuela Superior de Informática

    09th November 2023

The Escuela Superior de Informática de Ciudad Real, belonging to the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), was the scene this past Monday, November the 6th, of a day of intense programming and digital creativity. The Alarcos group organized the tenth edition of its annual Hackathon, an emblematic event within the activities of the festivity of Santa Tecla.

As in previous years, the event attracted a considerable number of participants, who from the early hours of the morning gathered to give free rein to their ingenuity in front of the computers. Manuel Serrano and José Ángel Martín Baos, both prominent members of the organizing committee, chaired the event. Together with them, a team of 20 colleagues from the Alarcos group acted as reviewers, ensuring the smooth running of the competition.

The Hackathon has become a desired event for the School's students, who faced coding challenges, optimization and logic problems for 7 uninterrupted hours. The fierce but friendly competition rewards not only technical skill but also team spirit and camaraderie among the students. "It's more than a programming challenge. It's a celebration of what it means to be part of this community," Serrano said at the opening of the event.

Participating teams, made up of students from various courses, competed to get the highest score possible by solving the most challenges. In addition, this year's Hackathon incorporated novel elements such as surprise tests, the prize for the best computer-related meme and the award for the best image generated by artificial intelligence, reflecting the dynamism and adaptation to new trends in the sector.

The atmosphere at the Escuela Superior de Informática was one of concentration, but also of fun and conviviality. The organizers took a break in the middle of the event to serve large quantities of pizza, allowing participants to recharge their batteries and share experiences in a relaxed environment. This type of event helps students get out of the academic routine and teaches them to work under pressure, while having fun and strengthening bonds.

The ESI Hackathon is not just an isolated event in the academic calendar, but a sign of ESI's commitment to the practical and up-to-date training of its students. This tenth anniversary reinforces the trajectory of an event that has already become a tradition within the university community and promises to remain a benchmark in the coming years.
