Our colleague Ismael Caballero served as main examiner for the thesis jury of Mr. Julio César Botelho de Sousas on last April, 23rd, titled "A machine-based approach to support the assessment of clinical coded data quality in the context of Diagnosis-Related Groups classification systems" belonging to the Doctoral Porgramme in Clinical and Health Services Research. The examination was held in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oporto.
The thesis was about how to improve the levels of DQ during the codification of diseases in APR-DRG-31 used in Portugal by using ICD-9 by applying the SVM algorithm to existing datasets. The APR-DRG is one of the cornerstone used in hospital management.
The candidate obtained the maximum qualification of "Pass".
